Pierre Paulin was Born in Paris in 1927, he studied stone carving and clay modelling at the Ecole Camondo before working at Thonet in 1954.

In the early fifties, he began designing furniture for Thonet and in 1958, became the main designer for Artifort. He designed a series of sculptural furniture in the mid-sixties with an inner structure of steel tubing, covered in foam and fabric. In 1968, Paulin collaborated with Le Mobilier National and received many important government commissions including furniture and interiors for the Elysee Palace in Paris. He also designed home appliances.

A French designer famous for his organic, simple designs, Pierre Paulin is one of the most influential designers of the modern movement. Paulin has worked in the industry for over 60 years, and has always been ahead of his time, continually designing innovative, ground-breaking pieces. His works, including the Orange Slice chair and Mushroom Chair, are displayed in a number of museums throughout the world, and he continues to exhibit new works throughout Europe today.
